Dana,

I've been lurking on the sidelines for a while now and I'm ready to start fabricating my wvo two tank conversion for my 85 VW Golf. I will start with the VO tank first. I'm using 1/16th thick mild steel because it's what I have on hand and I can weld steel pretty well. The tank I plan to build will hold 13.5 gallons.

My questions are these.

1.) What size baffling or how much should be added?  The tank will be 9 inches wide X 16 inches tall X 26 inches long with a slight angle removed for the back seat clearance. It will sit between the spare tire hole and the right side wheel housing.

2.) Should I plan for the supply and return lines to come into the tank from the top? Or should I make only the return come in to the top and the supply off the bottom?

3.) Will the tank be vented or is this a no no?

I'm sure I will have many more questions. But that's all I got for now. Thank you for your time and effort put into helping us newbies. Awesome website too!

Tony

A single vertical baffle (9x16) in the center of the tank should be sufficient for this size tank.

I would use a heated fuel pickup mounted horizontally in the side as near the bottom as possible. The return should come in the top or side near the top.

All tanks need to be vented. Run a rubber hose from the tank vent to a place it won't matter if a little oil spills out occasionally.

Some other info on tanks and tank fabrication is in the Conversion Parts and Accessories section.
