Hi Dana,

Just had my first tests with the sandy brae water test kit. The results where disappointing for me of course :
I tested a sample of oil I filtered and thought to have de watered the result was around 900 ppm. 
Then I decided to test a sample of new canola oil just to be sure I am doing things right, got a result of 500 ppm , which is high for new oil isn't it?
Maybe something isn't right with my tests?

I use String filter elements in a non bypass housing to pre filter the oil down to 10 microns and then let it settle for a few weeks then filter down to 1 micron on the way to storage tank. I dont use any heat, day time temps in the summer are above 90F.  I guess it wasn't enough to dewater it.

I'm thinking of either adding heat with a silicone drum heater or trying spraying and air drying the oil, haven't down it so far because wanted to avoid oxidization.

In my experience there is a huge variation in "new" oil.  If you are using settling a dewatering technique try adding just a little bit of heat.  A few degrees can make a huge difference.

Hi Dana,

Thanks for that , I will try and add some heat.
Would the centrifuge wvo designs offer the "Raw Power Centrifuge"   remove the water from the oil? From their claims its hard to understand.

Centrifuges CAN reduce water ppm numbers.
How well they do that  is mainly a matter of how low the viscosity of the oil is (higher temp=lower viscosity) and how slowly the oil is run through the centrifuge.

To actually remove all the water from wvo you have to wash it (to remove any salt/sugar which can cause dried wvo to absorb water from the atmosphere. You then need to chemically remove any water that remains. At that point it will remain fairly stable (water content wise) in fuel tanks.

Thanks again, of course this leads me to another question: which material is considered to be most reliable to chemically treat the oil for water?How is it down? I know some people use sodium bicarbonate? 
Would mixing water that are fully saturated with salt with the wvo help dry it? In theory it seems that it would.
