I have a growing number of individuals who contact me regarding developing new components for VO conversion. Many are individuals who converted their own vehicles using the "How-to"  files I began offering to the DIY crowd half a decade ago. Being "tinkerers" by nature many discovered new and better ways to overcome the problems associated with VO fuel conversions or improve on a component which already exists as an "off the shelf" item but may not be perfectly suited to use in VO conversions.

Several have gone on to patent their improvements or inventions and found there was not a "marketplace" where they could easily make them available for purchase.  Some tried Ebay..but found that it was a largely unregulated  marketplace where there were as many scammers as legitimate sellers of VO conversion components. Some tried creating websites but discovered the same problem existed...so many scams the consumer had no way to be certain that they were ordering from a legitimate and honest retailer.

Similarly those who wanted to assemble their own VO conversions had no central "marketplace" they could go to to order ALL of the components they needed without having to deal with scams or receiving components that really did not live up to the promises they relied upon when ordering them.

I also have a small network of individuals who do custom fabrication of the components I need for fleet conversions. Some of these are considering offering their custom fabrication services for individuals as well in order to expand their business. But they do not wish to devote the time to the inevitable long conversations with "potential customers" that are really nothing more than efforts to get information on VO conversion in general or on how the "potential customer" might make the component themselves. Essentially these folks would like a retail outlet for products so they can continue to simply manufacture them.

Although I stock quite a few components for converting large trucks that would be useful to individuals converting smaller vehicles I have hesitated to offer them for sale (with one exception) since I really want to keep my business focused on consultation and avoid having to hire employees simply to answer phones and fill/ship orders. I am a very strong believer in decentralization and co-operatives and have used these concepts together in the past to create very useful business organizations. And I think that this concept may work very well in this instance.

A VO conversion component vendors co-op central marketplace would allow all of the "cottage industry" makers of VO conversion components to share the cost and labor of operating this "central marketplace".  They could essentially continue to produce their product as they do now and avoid having to devote the additional time and effort associated with retailing them.

Individuals interested in assembling their own conversion kits would have a central marketplace from which to order all of the components they need..including custom fabricated ones.  And they would be able to do so with an assurance that the components would match the descriptions provided by the vendors.  Shipping costs would be significantly lower since many of the smaller components could be warehoused in a central location and shipped together.

sounds like a good idea to me dana.  as an owner of a '93 dodge 3/4 ton, who has been in the gradual process of converting to svo over the past few years, a consolidated place to gather info AND components would have certainly sped up my process.

It is happening very slowly.
As it is ANY vendor can post information about and/or links to their products. Those invited to join the VOCVCO will have to demonstrate both the quality of their components AND a commitment to both positive business ethics and the welfare of the VO community as a whole. I expect it will begin to "shake out" within the next year.

Until then...there is the Component Vendors and the Conversion Parts and Accessories sections of this forum which are designed to help individuals easily understand what each component does and where they can be most easily purchased.
